Tips for a safe trip
Don’t ever leave your bags on the floor or hanging from the back of your seat in restaurants, bars, theatres or cinemas. Keep them in sight at all times.
Beware of any type of distraction, such as people warning you of stains on your back and offering help to clean it. This is a scam known by the name of mustard scam, “mostaceros” in Spanish, just walk away.
Store money, valuables and your documents in the hotel safe. Avoid carrying significant sums of money. You can carry a photocopy of your passport with you.
Preferably avoid wearing high-end watches and flashy jewellery.
Try not to display expensive electronic items.
If you find yourself in a situation involving violence, do not offer resistance.
Avoid isolated or poor lit areas. If you’d like to exercise in the City’s parks and green areas make sure you do so at times when there are other people around.
Hire tours with travel agents known by your hotel. Do not accept offers on the street.
Exchange your money in banks or exchange bureaus. Do not exchange money on the street.
In case of loss of documentation, first contact the Tourist Police of the City of Buenos Aires and then contact your embassy or consulate.
Possession and consumption of drugs is punishable by law.
